My Mortal Enemy

When kindness has left people, even for a few moments, we become afraid of them, as if their reason had left them. When it has left a place where we have always found it, it is like a shipwreck; we drop from security into something malevolent and bottomless.

  1. For “kindness” I would substitute the word “heartfulness”; and I believe that the words are just as true when we cease to be kind or heartful with regard to ourselves as to others. Thanks for sharing this thoughtful and thought-provoking quotation!
